Professor Antje Boetius

Antje Boetius is Professor of Geomicrobiology at the University of Bremen, leader of the Microbial Habitat Group at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology (MPI-MM), and of the Helmholtz - Max Planck Joint Research Group on Deep Sea Ecology and Technology at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) and the MPI-MM. A Leibniz Prize recipient and member of the German Science Council, she is a pioneer in the study of seafloor microbial communities. She recently co-authored the popular science book Das Dunkle Paradies – Entdeckung der Tiefsee, with novelist Henning Boëtius.
