Frederick Reiken

Frederick (Rick) Reiken is a novelist, short story writer, and essayist. He is currently a professor of creative writing at Emerson College in Boston, where he teaches in the MFA program. Rick is working on a new science novel at the Hanse in 2022 and 23.

Rick has a Bachelor’s degree in biology, and worked doing wildlife field research before he got his Masters in Creative Writing, a background that shines through in much of his writing. His award-winning novels have been translated into many languages, including German. The Odd Sea, won the Hackney Literary Award and was cited as one of the best first novels of the year by Library Journal and Booklist. The Lost Legends of New Jersey, was a national bestseller and a New York Times Notable Book. Rick’s most recent novel Day For Night is infused with marine biology and neuroscience.
