Projects

Fiction Meets Science research projects span the humanities and social sciences, and are often linked to the work of participating writers and  scientists. Our first phase of projects (FMS I) focused on identifying and exploring the implications of late twentieth and early twenty-first novels about science. The projects in our second phase (FMS II), which ran from 2018 to 2022, expanded this exploration to include other forms of storytelling about science, paying particular attention to narratives that reflect the global dimensions and diverse regional contexts of science.

These academic research projects were funded by The Volkswagen Foundation and by the participating universities in Bremen and Oldenburg from 2012 to 2022. An informal Study Group of scholars, scientists, and scholars continues the dialogue started during that decade of concentrated work with occasional workshops at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg, Institute of Advanced Study.
